As part of a multi-pronged Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) approach to give back to the community, the True Group put together a Chinese New Year luncheon at SPD – an organisation that supports persons with disabilities – on 2 March 2015.
The SPD@ToaPayoh clients were treated to a yummy buffet lunch while True Group Founder and Group CEO, Mr Patrick Wee and National Council of Social Service CEO, Mr Sim Gim Guan, gave out oranges in line with the Lunar New Year festive season. They were accompanied by Senior Assistant Director of SPD, Mr Jeffrey Chin, who thanked the True Group for their recent donation of 12 gym equipment to SPD Ability Centre, SPD@Tampines and SPD@ToaPayoh. The equipment from the True Group replaces older machines which the SPD centres have been using.
To share our success with the community while reinforcing the message that a healthy lifestyle is vital for one’s well-being, True recently donated over $50,000 worth of fitness equipment to ten volunteer welfare organisations under the National Council of Social Service, which include MINDS, SG Enable, SPD, PERTAPIS and Autism Resource Centre, to name a few.
Using gym equipment for therapy is part of the rehabilitative process for many clients at SPD. The equipment aids in regaining strength and flexibility after a stroke, fracture or spinal-cord injuries, which is what many SPD clients are diagnosed with. We are pleased that the use of our gym equipment could extend beyond our centres and are able to help meet the needs of the less fortunate.
The True Group is more than an organisation which advocates the importance of health and fitness. We are constantly finding ways to give back to society by helping the less fortunate. Having reached our 10th year in 2014, the True Group has embarked on various activities to meet this objective.
We started off with the True Charithon in December 2014 which raised over S$6,500 in donations for the Breast Cancer Foundation. True also embarked on a Water Saving Campaign early this year – by encouraging our members to shorten the duration of water usage, True hopes to save water and has pledged to donate the dollar savings from our 2015 water bill to charity via The Community Chest. In the month of January 2015, True members have already saved over S$4,800!
